Serbia increases its Russian gas imports

(MENAFN) Beginning on December 1, Serbia will get an additional 2 million cubic meters of gas per day from Russia, according to Dusan Bajatovic, the chairman of state energy supplier Srbijagas, who spoke to RIA Novosti on Thursday.

Russia is now Serbia's sole natural gas supplier. Belgrade has already reserved 2.2 billion cubic meters of gas every year, covering 62% of the country's need, and plans to reserve another 700 million cubic meters for the winter season.

Vojislav Vuletic, the chairman of the Gas Association of Serbia, stated earlier this month that at the present consumption rate, the country will require around 4 billion cubic meters yearly as it transitions away from obsolete coal-fired power facilities. EBS, the country's state-owned electric utility, intends to build additional gas-fired stations in a number of locations, including Belgrade, Nis, and Novi Sad.

Serbia, which receives Russian supplies via the TurkStream pipeline, has also backed Moscow's proposal to establish a natural gas distribution center in Türkiye, claiming that it will assist Belgrade fulfill its expanding energy demand.
