US, its allies caution North Korea of "unparalleled" pushback

(MENAFN) North Korea was warned on Wednesday by the United States, South Korea, and Japan that it would face an "unprecedented" response if it conducted another nuclear test.

Their announcement comes amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula and long-standing US administration suspicions that Pyongyang may undertake another nuclear test.

Discussing at a joint press briefing in Tokyo, Cho Hyun-dong, South Korea’s first vice foreign minister, claimed that the three allies had “agreed that an unparalleled scale of response would be necessary if North Korea pushes ahead with a seventh nuclear test.” The official brought his comments after conference with Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Takeo Mori and US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.

Sherman echoed the Korean minister's remarks, urging Pyongyang to "refrain from future provocations," calling North Korean military exercises "reckless and extremely destabilizing." She also stated that another nuclear test in the region would have "global security repercussions."

The threats came after Sherman warned on Tuesday that the US would use all of its military strength, including nuclear weapons, to protect South Korea and Japan if they were attacked, while also criticizing North Korea's recent missile tests.
