Iran: Qeshm Free Zone ships over USD100M value of Commodities in 5 months

(MENAFN) Outputs worth USD107.317 million were shipped from Qeshm Free Zone in the southern Qeshm Island throughout the opening five months of the ongoing Iranian calendar year (March 21-August 22), the chief of the zone’s Customs Department declared.

Mokhtar Garshasbi stated that of the stated shipment, USD97.428 million was the value of commodities outputted inside the nation.

Establishment of free trade zones (FTZs) in Iran dates back to Iranian calendar year 1368 (March 1989 - March 1990) after the drop in the nation’s oil revenue in the prior year which encouraged the administration to endorse the non-oil shipments.

The initial two free trade zones of Iran were created in the south of nation. The initial one was Kish Free Trade Zone created in 1368 on Kish Island in the Persian Gulf while the following one was Qeshm Free Trade Zone created the year after on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
