AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday urged providing all means of support for families impacted by the Luweibdeh building collapse, and ensuring the injured receive proper medical care.

Chairing a meeting at the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM) upon his return to Jordan, King Abdullah followed up on the efforts to rescue those trapped under the rubble, expressing condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty called for raising awareness on how to deal with old buildings, noting the importance of professional supervision and the role of media in highlighting this.

The meeting was attended by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein, adviser to His Majesty and National Policies Council chairperson, and Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, NCSCM chairperson.

At the meeting, the King was briefed via telepresence by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on measures taken to deal with the incident and the quick response to provide the needed assistance for impacted families.

Public Security Directorate Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah also gave a briefing, highlighting the duties of civil defence and PSD teams and noting that rescue and evacuation operations are continuing around the clock.

Maaytah said specialised civil defence teams isolated the perimeter upon being notified of the incident, and evacuated all residents from the neighbourhood to ensure public safety.

The King commended the efforts of the first responders, especially civil defence teams, who are proceeding with their duties professionally and efficiently.
