Chad’s junta, rebel groups ink truce agreement in Qatar ahead of discussions

(MENAFN) Chad’s military administration and some rebel groups inked a pledge Monday in Qatar in preparation of scheduled national reconciliation discussions, though the agreement did not contain the nation’s focal opposition group.

In the terms of the contract in Doha, those who inked have approved to a truce ahead of the Aug. 20 discussions prearranged in the Chadian capital of N’Djamena.

Chad’s junta also approved to “not take any military or police operations against the signing groups” in bordering nations.

On the other hand, the Front for Change and Concord in Chad, the major rebel group in the nation, did not ink the pledge.

The skeptical group, known by its French acronym FACT, is convicted for the 2021 murder of Chad’s longtime leader Idriss Deby Itno, who had run the nation for 31 years.

That instantly urged into enquires whether the agreement would be sufficient to guarantee the success of the discussions as a planned 18-month transition from military rule to democracy winds down.
