Amazon: Jay Carney joins Airbnb

(MENAFN) Jay Carney, the top policy and communications manager at Amazon and one-time White House spokesman, has been called the chief of policy at Airbnb, showing another prestigious withdrawal for Amazon as it battles an instable consumer backdrop and sharp regulatory inspection.

Carney, who was the press secretary for President Barack Obama, will be part of Airbnb's managerial team and work with co-founder and boss Brian Chesky, the San Francisco-based home-sharing business wrote in a Friday blog post.

“Jay has worked at the highest levels of both government and technology, serving as a strategic counselor to the President, and at one of the largest tech companies in the world,” Chesky wrote in the blog.

Carney will be part of Airbnb within two months in Washington, D.C.

In an email delivered to the firm's senior leadership team, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy expressed thanks to Carney for “his many significant accomplishments,” as well as aiding the firm “build a strong set of capabilities in Public Policy and PR."
