Woman At Passport Queue Goes Into Labour

A woman standing in a queue at the Immigration and Emigration Department in Battaramulla went into labour today.

The 26-year-old woman has been standing in the queue with her husband since last evening to obtain a passport.

She was rushed to the Castle Street Maternity Hospital by female army soldiers with the assistance of the employees at the Immigration and Emigration Department.

A resident of Hatton, the woman gave birth to a baby girl at the Castle Street Maternity Hospital.

The Army media unit said that the timely assistance given by the Army helped ensure the woman safely gave birth to the child. (Colombo Gazette)
