Namibia President Praises Efforts Made To Eliminate Conflicts, Reduce Poverty

Doha: President of the Republic of Namibia H E Hage Geingob praised the efforts made to eliminate conflicts and unify the various components of society, pointing to the steps taken by his country to combat poverty by establishing mechanisms for good governance.

In a discussion session within the Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg, the President stressed yesterday that the African continent is in need of reducing poverty and inequality through good management of natural and human resources. He added that Africa was left without assistance and is in need of the support of the international community.

He stressed the importance of strengthening the education sector in order to raise the level of human resources as the main key to achieving sustainable development. He noted that the support provided by the German government to his country, estimated at €40m, to advance the education sector and implement human resources training programmes.

In another context, the President of Namibia announced the discovery of good quantities of oil and gas in his country, pointing to the importance of these discoveries in providing resources for the state to achieve development goals. He also welcomed cooperation with Shell to develop energy resources in his country.

He called on countries to advance investments in Namibia. He affirmed his government's commitment to the components of good governance to serve the interests of the various parties, adding they invest in human and natural resources to achieve sustainable development.
