SpaceX to initiate Egypt's Nilesat 301 telecom satellite into orbit

(MENAFN) The Egyptian telecommunications satellite Nilesat 301 was officially deployed by SpaceX from Cape Canaveral in Florida.

The satellite was launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at 11:04 p.m. Cairo time on Wednesday.
Nilesat 301 will replace its predecessor, Nilesat 201, and is projected to last at least 15 years, according to Nilesat CEO Ahmed Anis, as published by state-owned daily Al Ahram.

Mr Anis stated the recently launched satellite will offer “expanded broadband internet services to cover Egypt, including remote areas, new projects, infrastructure projects, and new urban communities, as well as gas and oilfields in the eastern Mediterranean".

According to the space research website SpaceFlightNow, SpaceX's 23rd Falcon 9 launch this year was the first time a satellite was delivered into geostationary orbit.

This month, SpaceX intends to launch up to five more Falcon 9 rockets.
