Bulgaria intends to negotiate Russian gas payments in rubles

(MENAFN) Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov claimed in an interview with BTV station on Sunday that Bulgaria intended to address ruble payments for Russian gas with the European Commission.

Sofia has previously rejected Moscow's fresh demand for a settlement from nations that had placed penalties on Russia.

When Germany and Italy agreed to establish ruble accounts, Nikolov was queried why nations like Bulgaria, Poland, and Finland were not complying with the demand.

European Union officials have made it plain, according to Nikolov, that payments in Russian currency are a violation of penalties. He declared that Sofia anticipates future directions from the European Commission.
