Seven Killed And 220 Injured In Lanka Anti-Government Rioting

Colombo, May 10 (newswire.lk): The Police said at least 07 people have died and over 220 people have been injured thus far in the incident.

The Chairman of the Imaduwa Pradeshiya Sabha A. V. Sarath Kumara has died following an attack on his residence. The Police said the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman had died upon admission to the hospital last night.

Meanwhile, a Police Sub-Inspector has died after a tear gas gun exploded during the unrest near the Temple Trees on Monday night. The Police said the 24-year-old Police officer had died after being admitted to the hospital.

Former President warns of Army rule

In a tweet, former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga has warned of a plot to impose army rule using the current unrest, and has asked people to thwart it.

I appeal to all our citizens who have carried on a Wonderful struggle for Justice and Democratic governance so PEACEFULLY,to be aware that saboteurs may be used to incite violence in order to pave the way for military rule.Please use your organisational skills to halt this danger, Kumratunga said in her tweet on tuesday.
