A number of students, academics, and civil and political activists have signed an online petition to the Oxford Union calling for the cancellation of a speech by Hamdullah Mohib, the former government's National Security Adviser, at the Oxford Union in Britain.

Former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's national security adviser, Hamdullah Mohib, has been invited to speak at the Oxford Union on May 11 about current events in Afghanistan.

According to them, Mohib, along with other high-ranking Afghan officials, including Ashraf Ghani, fled the country in shame, paving the way for the restoration to power of a notorious international terrorist.

The petition called Hamdullah Mohib a“national traitor” who does not deserve to represent Afghanistan at the Oxford Union, especially while no Afghan researcher will be there.

It further said that Mohib was to responsible for the government's collapse and that he should formally apologize to the Afghan people, but instead trying to absolve himself by delivering speeches.

The letter's signatories claim that newly arrived refugees in Oxford, as well as Afghan students, and educators, have been seriously hurt and do not feel at ease in Mohib's presence.

The Oxford Union is one of the UK's oldest and most prestigious academic institutions, and it hosts world-renowned talks.
