Poland sends tanks to Ukraine, PM Morawiecki confirms

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Poland sends tanks to Ukraine and will receive armored vehicles from Great Britain instead.

Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki confirmed this information on the air of Polsat News TV channel when asked whether the statements by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson about Warsaw's delivery of tanks to Kyiv are true.

'Yes,' Morawiecki said.

At the same time, he refused to reveal the exact number, citing security concerns.

'We will inform about this at the appropriate time, but given the security of primarily our Ukrainian neighbors and friends, we will not talk about this today,' Morawiecki said.

He noted that the issue of Poland's delivery of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine was 'closed'.

'There is no such necessity, there are no such demands, there are no such requests,' said the head of the Polish government.

Earlier Morawiecki said that Poland sent arms worth PLN 7 billion ($1.6 billion) to Ukraine.

A few days ago, the UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that London would deliver Challenger 2 tanks to Poland to replace T-72 tanks that Poland would send to Ukraine.

Earlier, Warsaw announced its readiness to hand over its MiG-29 aircraft to the Americans at Ramstein Air Base with a possible transfer to Ukraine. However, the United States rejected the proposal.

It is known that Kyiv has repeatedly asked Western allies, in particular the countries of the former socialist camp, to give Ukraine Soviet-made fighter jets, which are either in their arsenal or in warehouses.

According to several media outlets, Poland sends about 100 upgraded T-72M1R tanks to Ukraine.
