US and Sri Lanka discuss overcoming ongoing economic challenges

The United States and Sri Lanka have discussed overcoming the ongoing economic challenges in Sri Lanka.

US Assistant Secretary Donald Lu and Sri Lankan Finance Minister Ali Sabry had talks in Washington.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Nandalal Weerasinghe also attended the discussion.

The State Department tweeted saying the US welcomed Sri Lanka and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) working towards a sustainable solution to relieve the economic hardships for its people.

Sri Lanka is currently negotiating a deal with the IMF to address the economic crisis in the country. (Colombo Gazette)
