The General Authority of customs (GAC) has announced it recorded 294,104 declarations in December last year. In its monthly newsletter the GAC also disclosed that 263,323 declarations were completed by the Air Cargo department, while the Maritime department completed 21,780 statements.
The statistics show a significant increase in transactions compared to November, which recorded 278,252 declarations.
Meanwhile, in December, the GAC maintained its rate of declarations per hour, with 97% processed documents released in an hour. Also, 25,480 declarations were transferred to other government agencies for processing.
India and China remained the top exporting and importing countries to Qatar. The Ministry of Municipality's Natural Reserves and Wildlife Department kept a firm grip on the Best Government Agency in 'time of release' for the second straight month, recording an average release time of 0.64 hours.
The GAC also registered 319 seizure reports amplifying its efforts to thwart smugglers from bringing banned substances into the country. The largest bust of the month was a 42kg seizure of guru.
In other news, Amna Masood, an inspector at the Hamad International Airport, stressed that customs officials must maintain high ethics and responsibility as they are the first line of defence in preserving the country's security across all its ports and border.
Amna Masood stressed that though it may be challenging to deal with some passengers, it is mainly due to cultural differences.
“A Customs official directly affects the protection of the homeland,” Masood stated.“Officials are face challenges related to maintaining security and reducing attempts to smuggle narcotics and harmful substances. The Customs official should have high ethics in their daily work as they deal with travelers, tourists and a large number of guests visiting the country.”
