Turkey reiterates position to decrease Moscow-Kyiv mounting tensions

(MENAFN) On Saturday, Turkey reiterated its readiness to consider decreasing mounting tension between Moscow and Kyiv amidst worries regarding Russia’s military build-up close to the frontier with Ukraine.

Ibrahim Kalin, Turkish presidential spokesperson reported to Anadolu Agency, "we are ready to play our role to de-escalate tension between the two countries, with whom we maintain good relations."

Reaffirming that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had made an offer to his Russian partner Vladimir Putin in this matter, he stated that further intensification in events would damage all parties in this situation.

Old tensions regarding Russia’s unlawful invasion of Crimea in 2014 have been worsened by Russian-supported separatists in the eastern border territory of Donbas, accompanied by a Russian armed buildup criticized by the West.
