Qatar, represented by the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) won the presidency of a new session of the Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet).
The 7th GPDNet General Assembly was held at Katara from November 29 to December 1 headed by its Secretary-General Eng. Darwish Ahmed Al Shaibani where they dis-cussed a series of topics, projects and programmes sub-mitted by Qatar and 10 of the member states.
They presented papers that include their most prominent and effective cultural projects related to public global diplomacy.Eng. Al Shaibani affirmed that Qatar succeeded during its presidency of the current session of the GPDNet in trans-forming the network into an incubator for cultural projects specialised in public diplomacy, noting that the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) submitted a working paper, and included the“Digital Diplomacy Project.”
This works to establish an elec-tronic platform that connects member countries with their cultural institutions, to exchange information, experi-ences, ideas and proposals among member states.Al Shaibani added that the“Digital Diplomacy Project” is aimed to build human capac-ities and enhance sustainable development programmes, through the establishment of a training body in public diplomacy, noting that the project enhances communi-cation between all cultural institutions of the member states of the GPDNet in an effective and advanced manner.
This will then contribute in strengthening the cultural role and contribute to the devel-opment of societies, which gives us an opportunity to encourage member states to present their cultural projects through this platform, and thus devote the role of the site in encouraging the public to interact and con-tribute to presenting their inno-vations, creativity, ideas and their own projects related to culture, arts and heritage.
Conference session was held with a series of innovative and pioneering cultural projects in public diplomacy submitted by 10 of the member states.
These new projects will contribute to raise the level of cultural work for societies in those countries.Bosnia presented a working paper for a cultural project“Museum of Peace and Freedom,” whose idea is to hold events in a new and innovative way and according to content inspired by history, heritage and civilization, while Georgia pre-sented its project“Creative Incubator,” which talks about giving young people the oppor-tunity to put forward their ideas and creative projects through a program that helps and con-tributes to the development and implementation of these projects.Hungary, meanwhile, pre-sented a special project for the arts, calling for the exploitation of public places and the estab-lishment of art platforms in squares, parks and beaches.
As for Mexico, the dele-gation presented“Building Public Diplomacy” by relying on the available capabilities and creating creative solutions. Mozambique presented a film on mobile education, a project that provides a set of solutions and educational pro-grammes and facilitates the process of delivering knowledge to the public in far and remote places. Moreover, Nigeria presented its cultural project“The Power of Language” in which it talked about the impact of language on local commu-nities, while Turkey partici-pated in a cultural project that talks about“The path of public diplomacy in Turkey” and explains how to communicate with multicultural societies.
The Assembly concluded its work with Katara's presentation of its initiative to transform the GPDNet into an organisation, after finalising the studies required to achieve this goal, and discussing the amend-ments, the radical and essential development of the structure of the network.
This is in addition to discussing the proposed vision for the network's strategy in expanding the fields of coop-eration, in a way that institu-tionalises the network and enhances its position, strength and effectiveness interna-tionally through new partici-pation, attracting more members
