US special representative to Afghanistan Thomas West told reporters on Monday that the United States held a consultation on a road map based on which they will recognize the Taliban's government formed after the US troops withdrew and the previous government collapsed.
Thomas West has also expressed his concern over the uptick in the attacks of ISIS in Afghanistan and Al-Qaida's presence in the country while he applauded the Taliban's efforts in suppressing the terror group.
The special representative added that the Taliban has voiced clearly and openly their desire to normalize relations with the international community, to see a resumption in aid, to see a return of the international diplomatic community to Kabul, and to see sanctions relief.
Though it is believed that the international community is somehow awaiting the US to take the lead in recognizing the Taliban, Thomas West acknowledged that the US can deliver none of the above on their own.
Thomas is intended to visit Pakistan and attend the Troika plus summit along with special representatives of Russia, China, and Pakistan to Afghanistan.
Afghanistan's acting foreign minister Amir Khan Motaqi is due to leave Kabul for Islamabad on Wednesday, November 10.
