Poonch Encounter: Jailed Militant Killed, 3 Forces Personnel Injured

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar: A jailed militant, under police escort, was killed and two police and one Army personnel injured after being ambushed yet again in the ongoing encounter in Poonch's Bhata Durian area were injured after coming under heavy fire from militants, officials said. Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand confirmed the development to Kashmir Observer. "The contact was established early morning, the firing is going on presently and nothing further can be said." The forces were ambushed after a team of police and army personnel were escorting the jailed militant - identified as Zia Mustafa, a resident of Rawlakot in Pakistani side of Kashmir - to the site for the identification of a hideout in Nar Khas area of Mendhar. Two weeks ago at least nine Army soldiers, including two Junior Commissioned Officers, have so far been killed in the deadliest and longest gunfight of this year. “During the search when the team approached the hideout, militants again opened fire on a joint team of police and army personnel in which two policemen and an army jawan sustained injuries. Mustafa also sustained injuries and he could not be extracted from the site due to heavy fire”, officials told a local news agency. Global News Service reported that the body of the militant was recovered later today. Anand passed the buck for security lapse onto the police. Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar didn't respond to phone calls when contacted.
