Taliban assure UN of protecting their administrations in Afghanistan

Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Abdul Salaam Hanafi met with UN secretary-General's special representative to Afghanistan Deborah Lyons in Arg (Presidential Palace) on Saturday, October 23.

Abdul Salaam Hanafi asked for the UN's cooperation in different sectors and assured the special representative of protecting all UN's administrations in Afghanistan, said a spokesperson of the Taliban Zabiullah Mujahid in a statement.

Deborah Lyons who is also head of the United Nations Assistant Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) briefed the Deputy PM of her recent visit to the US and added that the UN is committed to providing the people of Afghanistan with humanitarian assistance.

She also said that they are willing to cooperate with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in resolving economic woes and banking problems.

In the meantime, Abdul Salaam Hanafi said that they are willing to have closer cooperation with the UN and ask for their positive and fruitful consultations.

He also said that they will be working to stop the plantation of narcotics in Afghanistan and asked the UN to provide Afghan people with alternatives in this regard.

The statement reads that Deborah Lyons also expressed gratitude to the Taliban for the security services in protecting the UN's administrations and personnel in Afghanistan.
