Expo: Brazil’s VP talks sustainability in pavilion opening

Dubai – By day, a wide, minimalistic, clear, cube-shaped space. At night, the venue comes to life with lots of projections of the most beautiful Brazilian landscapes, music and a huge water plaza to freshen up visitors under the high temperatures of the emirate. This is the first view you have of the Brazil pavilion at expo 2020 which opened on Friday (1) and had its ribbon cut by vice president Hamilton Mourão accompanied by his wife Paula Mourão.



The Brazilian pavilion by day

Then the vice president also opened an exhibit of photos of Amazon on the first floor of the pavilion that is open to the public.“Brazil wants to show it's a country devoted to the main topic of the 21st century: sustainability,” he said.

The VP said the pavilion will be an international showcase of Brazil for the following six months to show the world the challenges, achievements and potential of the country. He highlighted the importance of the space to foster strategic trade ties as well as market and business opportunities and said the venue will play host to announcements of new initiatives, businesses and partnerships that will contribute to the sustainable development.

“The pavilion that has just opened is a symbol of the greatest wealth of our country, the abundance of water and biodiversity, as well as the creative, entrepreneur and resilient spirit of our people,” Mourão said. He believes Expo 2020 Dubai represents a time of renewal, where we are overcoming the most severe phase of the worst pandemic of the last century.



At night, the pavilion comes to life

Mourão chairs the National Council for the Legal Amazon. He said he's pleased with the emphasis given to sustainability in the pavilion and added that investment attraction and jobs and income generation in the Amazon are fundamental for conservating the forest. The vice president will discuss“National Policies for the Sustainable Development of the Amazon” on Saturday (2) at the Terra auditorium in the Sustainability District of the Expo at 3 pm (GST).

Mourão said that president Jair Bolsonaro is scheduled to come to Brazil Day at Expo 2020 on November 15. Bolsonaro is expected to come with a delegation of politicians and businesspeople.“His visit will raise our profile and strengthen our cooperation and friendship ties with the United Arab Emirates,” the VP said.

Other Brazilian authorities that watched the ribbon-cutting ceremony were general commissioner of Brazil for Expo Dubai 2020, general Elias Martins Filho; minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado; ambassador of Brazil to Abu Dhabi, Fernando Igreja; director of Brazilian pavilion, Raphael Nascimento; and director of Business of Apex-Brasil, Lucas Fiuza.

Apex-Brasil representative Elias Rodrigues Martins Filho said the Brazilian pavilion will serve as a platform for partners.“This is Brazil's house across the Gulf region now,” the general commissioner of Brazil for Expo Dubai 2020 said.

In the pavilion at Expo, Brazil will showcase its unique, innovative and sustainable features to the world community over the 182 days of event. The forecast is to generate USD 500 million in export business, USD 10 billion in investments and over 20,000 new jobs in the country.

Amazon photo exhibit is on the first floor of the pavilion

Located in the Sustainability district, Brazil Pavilion is almost 4,000 square meters. The other two districts of the Expo are Opportunity and Mobility. Over 5,500 people visited the pavilion in the first day.

Expo is considered one of the world's largest events where countries show the world the best they have achieved in innovation, technology and sustainability across various economic fields. This edition expects to welcome 25 million visitors by Marcy 31, 2022.
