I have been a community-engaged scholar and social work educator for more than 15 years. My research agenda is focused on HIV disparities and social justice issues within the community. I have researched community methods and psychosocial interventions for empowering women living with HIV to cope successfully with their diagnosis and live healthier and longer lives.
I am the principal investigator of a subaward grant,“Integrating community health workers as part of the HIV care team to improve viral suppression in Shelby County TN,” funded through the Providence/Boston Center for AIDS Research. This grant provides support and training to HIV community health workers and their supervisors to deliver high quality client-centered care in Shelby County Tennessee as part of the Ending the HIV Epidemic plan.
I am researching the effect of Tennessee's HIV criminal laws on vulnerable and marginalized populations and the impact of these state-level HIV policies on people living with HIV. I am a member of the Tennessee HIV Modernization Coalition which has the goal of updating Tennessee's HIV criminal statues to reflect current science.
