São Paulo – Documentation of Brazilian exports to Jordan will be issued and verified electronically as of September 15 this year. The transition from physical to digital processing was officially announced in Amman, the Arab country's capital city, this week by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and Jordan's customs Authority. Mansour spoke to the press about the initiative

The secretary-general and CEO of the ABCC, Tamer Mansour, and the Information Technology manager at the institution, Marcos Bulgarelli, were in Jordan to settle the procedures, carry out the final tests on the system and participate in the launch. Jordan was the first Arab country with which the ABCC signed an agreement in the area in 2018.“It is an unprecedented initiative,” stated Mansour to ANBA.

Once the new feature comes into effect in mid-September, there will no longer be a need to check paperwork, as this will be done entirely electronically. In some cases, countries do digitalize the documents but still supplement the process with physical verification. With Jordan, everything now goes digital.

Amaral and Qudah: exports announcement

In practice, this means the implementation of digital customs clearance. The process will be carried out through Easy Trade, a blockchain system part of the ABCC's Ellos platform. The digital documents are electronically made available for checking and validation by the authorities in the country of destination for the cargo.

Mansour told ANBA that with the integration, exporters would have faster, easier, and cheaper clearance.“It will reduce the time for dispatching the goods and the cost of paperwork,” said the secretary-general. He believes the facilitation will encourage Brazilian exports to Jordan. After this first phase, the works will begin to implement the same process in the other way, in exports from Jordan to Brazil.

The project's announcement had the presence of the chief Customs executive of Jordan, Jalal Qudah, the ambassador of Brazil to Jordan, Ruy Amaral, and other local authorities. Among other benefits, Qudah said the electronic connection between the two parties would facilitate and simplify the procedures for importing and exporting goods. He also said the initiative aligns with Jordanian King Abdullah II's vision of strengthening the partnership between the public and private sectors.

Brazil exported to the Jordanian market from January to July this year USD 142 million in goods, especially poultry, beef, corn, and coffee. Jordan, in turn, sold to the Brazilians USD 54.4 million in products such as fertilizers, inputs for fertilizers, garlic, and clothing. There was a 1.3% drop in Brazilian exports to Jordan and a 126% increase in Jordanian sales to Brazil.
