China: Helicopter smashes into lake in Yunnan


(MENAFN) Local authorities have stated that early on Monday, May. 10 a helicopter smashed into a lake in Dali City, southwest China's Yunnan Province, while cleaning up the damage led by a forest blaze.

The Dali municipal bureau of emergency management noted that the helicopter smashed into the Erhai Lake at 10:20 a.m as it tried to draw water to clear and wet a burnt zone.

Sources with the publicity bureau of Dali said to Xinhua that the blaze erupted on Sunday in a forest in Dali and was put out by 6:40 a.m. on Monday. The smashed helicopter didn't join the firefighting operation.

Emergency and medical teams are conducting rescue mission on-site. It is not yet known whether any fatalities were caused by the crash.
