Doha: Qatar ARMYs, a local fan club of world-renowned Korean boyband BTS, has completed another successful international project in celebration of a BTS member's birthday.

Since 2017, Qatar ARMYs has orchestrated many local and international projects to support BTS, which varied from local fan club gatherings and cup sleeve projects to international bus and billboard advertisements, the fan club has demonstrated their relentless support for the seven-membered boy band.

This time around, they organized something that is completely distinct from its usual array of activities. To celebrate the birthday of the BTS member Min Yoongi, famously known as "Suga", Qatar ARMYs prepared a heart-warming surprise for a number of elderly people living alone in Daegu, South Korea.

Naming the project "A Cube of Suga", the fan club sold retro-style bundle bags containing BTS merchandise in order to fund the event. Through the funds raised, amounting to QR 6,044, they worked with Gajung Community Welfare Center to successfully execute the event in South Korea.

Qatar ARMYs also revealed that the idea was heavily inspired by an initiative that BTS had participated during its early years. In 2014, BTS teamed up with Hope Delivery, a programme under Love Food Bank, in delivering food to children and elderly in need. In the same programme, Suga was among the members who visited houses of the elderly to deliver food.

"Watching BTS in Hope Delivery episode was very emotional to watch and this is why the admins decided to make 'A Cube of Suga'," the fan club admins stated.

In the third week of March, fifteen elderly people living alone in Daegu were surprised with nutritious meals, fruits, cakes and bouquets which were safely delivered to their respective houses. On its official Youtube channel , Qatar ARMYs shared how the meals and gifts were prepared and delivered by The Gajung Community Welfare Center.

Speaking about the project, the fanclub stated that they simply aimed to "add a cube of sugar to the elderly who are living alone in Daegu, South Korea".

"Suga, a BTS member who was born and raised in Daegu, inspired us to spread sweetness in his hometown to celebrate his birthday and make elderly happier," the fan club told The Peninsula.

The heart-warming surprise event was filled with tears of joy, birthday greeting songs and words of gratitude from the elderly people living alone in Daegu. The Gajung Community Welfare Center also expressed their thanks towards Qatar ARMYs for initiating the project in dedication to BTS member, Suga's birthday.

"Our primary goal was to make the elderly people happy, and upon seeing their reaction it made us realize how difficult it is to live alone during a pandemic," the admins said.

Much to their surprise, the "A Cube of Suga" project also caught the attention of four news outlets and two TV stations in South Korea, which acknowledged how it was heart-warming for the elderly people in Daegu.

"We are speechless honestly, we expected it to be a successful. But how it turned out, it was more than what we expected and we think that is because of the support of ARMYs in Qatar," the fanclub commented.

They further stated: "We are very thankful because with their help we were able to represent the Qatar ARMYs in a very positive manner."

The fanclub also shared a message to the elderly who received the surprise.

Qatar ARMYs said: "During these uncertain times, we hope that our small project makes you happy and always remember to take care of your health and eat well."

When asked about their biggest takeaway from the activity, the admins stated: "One key takeaway from doing 'A Cube of Suga' is to never belittle how a small project could impact someone's life!"

In yet another milestone achieved on its first-ever humanitarian event, the Qatar ARMYs is already preparing for more surprises for its fellow BTS fans in Qatar.

With much enthusiasm, the fan club shared that it is looking forward to revealing a large-scale video production of a bus advertisement launched in December 2020 which was dedicated to another BTS member, Kim Taehyung.

With the hashtag #BTS_Butter constantly trending on Qatar's Twitter trends, the fans are looking forward towards the group's latest single called "Butter" which is set to be released on May 21. This marks as the second English-language single of BTS after the chart-topping single "Dynamite".
