Tokyo shares open lower on worries over coronavirus infections rising in Japan


(MENAFN) On Thursday, Apr. 8 Tokyo shares opened lower as shareholder sentiment was knocked by a resurgence of coronavirus infections in Japan, which have blurred the estimate for gains season there and the broader economic revival.

Starting 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average decreased 170.72 points, or 0.57 percent, from Wednesday reaching 29,560.07.

In the meantime, the broader Topix indicator of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange declined 15.47 points, or 0.79 percent, hitting 1,951.96.

Among those that dropped the most in the opening minutes following the morning bell were air transport, textile and apparel, and pharmaceutical issues.
