I am a cultural historian with research interests in the intersections of gender, sexuality and religion. I studied at the University of Western Australia and the University of Melbourne. My PhD was published as, Sexual Politics in the Church of England, 1857-1957, (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2013).

I am currently Senior Lecturer in History at La Trobe University in Melbourne. I previously lectured at the University of South Wales, where I was co-director of the Centre for Gender Studies from 2010-2012. From 2012-2015 I was an Australian Research Council DECRA fellowship at La Trobe University, held jointly in History and the Australian Research Centre for Sex, Health and Society.

I am currently working on several projects, including (i) a biographical study of D. S. Bailey and the Church of England Moral Welfare Council in 1950s Britain; (ii) an ARC DECRA funded history of the Christian Right's involvement in Australian Sexual Politics; and, (iii) a history of the LGBT conversion therapy movement in Australia since 1973.
