Dow Jones falls 1 pct, banks suffer losses as Fed finishes exemption


(MENAFN) On Friday, Mar. 19 a little after US market opening, the Dow Jones declined nearly 1 percent, with key banks suffering strong hits after The Federal Reserve finished an exemption.

The blue-chip indicator fell 271 points, or 0.8 percent, to 32,590 with JPMorgan decreasing 3.1 percent, whereas Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley dropped 1.4 percent and 2.2 percent, each at 10.00 a.m. EDT (1400GMT).

The S&P 500 decreased 17 points, or 0.4 percent, reaching 3,899 and the Nasdaq was even almost unmoved at 13,110 points.

The central bank declared previously: "the temporary change to the supplementary leverage ratio, or SLR, for depository institutions issued on May 15, 2020, will expire as scheduled on March 31, 2021."
