Sports Minister Namal Rajapakasa has intervened to bring back a group of Sri Lankans stranded in Dubai.

Rajapakasa, who is in Dubai to attend an event, met some Sri Lankans who are stranded and have been seeking assistance to return home.

The Minister tweeted saying he met the Sri Lankan community who are unable to reach home due to various difficulties.

He said that with the assistance of State Minister D.V.Chanaka who was with him in Dubai and Minister Prasanna Ranathunga, they were able to assist and make arrangements for the stranded Sri Lankans to return home.

A number of Sri Lankans are stranded in the Middle East and have sought assistance to return home.

The Government had last year commenced a repatriation process to bring back Sri Lankans stranded in a number of countries as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, there were concerns that very little was being done to bring back Sri Lankan migrant workers stranded overseas. (Colombo Gazette)
