Dear Sir:
When the prime minister of Saint Lucia uses an abnormal connotation addressing a meeting of the National Emergency Management Advisory Committee ( NEMAC ) in discussing the COVID-19, March 16, in particular, a 'doggy style' apparent approach to get things under control, perhaps, we should be understanding of our British and French heritage.
'A prime minister on the phone call yesterday, I think, put it very, very well, that we not looking to win a gold medal at the Olympics, what we looking to do, is to ‘doggy style,' and to make sure we keep our heads above water,' prime minister Allen Chastanet referenced. 'That is really the mindset, I need us to be able to appreciate that the next four to six months there is going to be an economic fallout…'
The inference is apparently to stay afloat from drowning or for that matter when confronted with a tight situation the need to get in and out in a hurry. Reminds me of Shaggy - It wasn't me.
'That's an unnecessary jab' a commentor on social media suggested, 'he was talking about paddling like a dog in water, going slowly not like an Olympic swimmer,' nevertheless, social media was abuzz with comments not suitable for repetition except for those more palatable that I suppose is allowed for thoughtful media:
- 'It took me a while to decipher it. I'll tell you that much. It was only when he said ‘swimming' l kinda got what he meant.'
- 'I think there's a serious cause for concern for the people of Saint Lucia as well as the entire nation with these types of communication especially in such critical times …. never seen nor heard this, to be honest.'
- 'We are making fun of this because this deserves a very good laugh, in the midst of a tight spot the country finds itself; but is the prime minister intellectually astute to the task at hand or just asking for a friend?
It was only a few weeks ago prime minister Chastanet was supposed to be at a meeting of heads of government in Barbados discussing COVID-19, but instead was head on-tape asking for a Ti Punch. And now in Saint Lucia, "his apparent mental focus is on ‘doggy style' equivalence to contain COVID-19."
It is a sad state of affairs when the government is asking us to do something, ‘doggy stylish' during a pandemic, it is natural to put this in perspective.
So when the ‘doggy style' is a reference 'to make sure we keep our heads above water' and 'to appreciate that the next four to six months there is going to be an economic fallout,' really and truly, unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures.
Even with such resourcefulness on the mind of the prime minister, most people usually reference this to a sign of horniness, one commentor writes, 'really miss those visits to France'.
In more ways that one, social media approved that: 'This man should step back and allow someone more intelligent, compassionate and caring to lead us through this crisis,' this prime minister was so lame and empty with his speech, at the meeting this morning'.
