0.53 percent decline in British shares

British shares declined on Tuesday, the benchmark FTSE 100 Index posted a drop of 0.53 percent, or 40.74 points, to set at 7,610.70 points.

Shares of low-cost British airline EasyJet increased 4.62 percent and it had the best performance in the blue chips. Legal & General Group and Melrose Industries both posted rises of 1.79 percent and 1.60 percent respectively.

Multinational vertically integrated steel making and mining firm Evraz had the worst performance in the blue chips as its shares dropped 5.68 percent, multinational events and publishing company Informa saw its shares decline 3.55 percent. InterContinental Hotels Group dropped 3.52 percent.
