ICRC conf. kicks off with Kuwait participating


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA, Dec 9 (KUNA) -- The 33rd conference of the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) kicked off Monday and will run until Thursday, December 12.
Speaking to KUNA in a statement on the sidelines of the event, Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Hilal Al-Sayer said the world's countries are seeking to provide stability, security and safety for their citizens.
They are looking forward to setting a comprehensive strategy to curb disasters and crises as well as emergencies based on a clear vision to create a safe, stable and prosperous environment for nations, he added.
The congress discusses the five global challenges in the 2030 strategy, he said, noting that climate change constitutes a major danger facing the humanity.
He pointed out that this phenomenon affects all sectors including health and living conditions.
He said the event focuses on crises disasters, health, migration, identity, values and others, indicating "we will work with our partners to ensure providing full care to people".
He stressed the importance of developing and maintaining donors' base so as to ensure offering basic services for the needy.
He urged the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to concept activities of voluntary action in the next years through renewing a network of humanitarian field staff. (end)
