(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The first Qatar Critical Care Conference held in Doha recently gathered hundreds of local and international experts in the field of specialised care for people who have experienced critical care illness such as cardiac arrest, severe multi-organ dysfunction, among other who required artificial organs support.
The conference was attended by Minister for Public Health, H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, and was held over four days featuring experts from around the world including North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
'Thanks to our talented and committed clinical teams and first-rate facilities, the care we deliver to critically ill patients in Qatar is world-class, said Dr Al Kuwari. 'Hosting this event in Qatar, with a lineup of international experts, and also being able to showcase our own expertise and experiences, will further strengthen our delivery of care in this ever changing field.
The conference is endorsed by major international societies such as the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine, Neuro-Critical Care Society, Canadian Critical Care Society among others.
The Qatar Critical Care Society was also launched at the event a forum that will bring all critical care practitioners in Qatar together and aims to provide the latest cutting-edge scientific knowledge in the diagnosis and management of critically ill and injured patients.
'Critical care is by far the most sophisticated speciality in medicine with major attention needed to details, a few seconds can cost lives. We witnessed a major revolution in the diagnosis and management ranging from simple organ support all the way to artificial organ support such as artificial heart and lung implementation, said Conference Chair, Dr Ibrahim Mohamed Fawzy, Director of Critical Care at HMC. 'This conference is a platform where knowledge and experience on vital critical care issues were shared through a comprehensive line-up of lectures and workshops. The level of Critical Care in Qatar has raised the bar in the region and our delegates and participants from 30 different countries to attend our very thoroughly planned workshops.
The event, held at the Sheraton Grand Doha, also honoured 13 pioneers of Critical Care in Qatar. 'These clinicians were at the forefront of developing and improving critical care medicine in Qatar and it is only apt that we acknowledge their vital role at this, the first critical care conference to be held in this country, said Dr Mohammad Faisal Malmstrom, Senior Consultant and Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Hamad General Hospital. 'Their work and vision has made a significant difference on the lives of thousands of patients.
Dr Abdulsalam Saif Ibrahim, Deputy Director Medical Intensive Care Unit at Hamad General Hospital said it was an honor to host so many local and international experts in Qatar for the event.
'HMC has been at the forefront of developing critical care in Qatar and the region and is the first Gold Center of Excellence in Extracorporeal Life Support in Asia and Africa. Our organization is also a major training hub for several critical care programs, such as rapid response team training, hemodynamically optimization, medical ventilation and other programs, he said. 'Hosting this international event is further recognition of the advances we are making here and the direct impact these have on our patients.
