(AIS) on Myanmar's coastal, fishing boats


(MENAFN) As said by the Department of Marine Administration (DMA) on Tuesday, Myanmar is set to install automatic identification system (AIS) on its coastal and fishing ships to grantee marine safety.


To manage AIS and exchange navigation information, AIS stations will be recognized at 19 jetties and the variety of the AIS would widen to 48-80 kilometers.


The department also said that, such installations will start at the end of this year and all inland water transport ferries and coastal ships will have AIS by 2021, adding that the AIS would also assist trail illegal activities of ships.


Around 600 big cargo and passenger ships and 4,000 fishing vessels are in Myanmar and with the addition of small vessels the entire number of the vessels will go beyond 10,000 which will be set with AIS.
