UNAMI opens new offices in Mosul


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) IRBIL, Sept 20 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) opened new offices in the northern city of Mosul which officials said would enable it to strengthen its support for communities in the Nineveh governorate.
According to a press release, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert called the move "a step that will deepen our collaboration, enhance our coordination and provide a constant interface with the UN for all stakeholders."
"We intend this office to be a meeting place for all those with a stake in the development and prosperity of [Nineveh]," said Hennis-Plasschaert.
UNAMI and UN agencies have been heavily involved in providing services to residents of Mosul and the surrounding governorate, including in the reconstruction of some of the cityآ's landmarks, the release said.
During her visit to Mosul, Hennis-Plasschaert also toured a distribution center for Iraqآ's new "national unified card" identification document system.(end).
