Khudai Khidmatgar Tehreek leader Alif Jan Khattak passes away


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Prominent leader of the Khudai Khidmatgar Tehreek and eminent Pashto poetess Alif Jan Khattak is no more.

The Nimaz-e-Janaza of the deceased Khudai Khidmatgar Tehreek leader was offered in Ahmadi Banda area of Karak on Sunday. The brave poetess through her poetry played important role during the Independence Movement from British rule. She used to send her writings on regular basis for the monthly 'Pakhtun', a publication of the Tehreek.


The Awami National Party (ANP) president Asfandyar Wali Khan and provincial president Aimal Wali Khan have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Alif Jan Khattak.

In their condolence messages, Asfandyar Wali Khan and Aimal Wali Khan said Alif Jan Khattak took part in the political struggle with Bacha Khan and Abdul Wali Khan at a time when women's participation in politics was not so easy. They said Alif Jan also enlightened the women of the Tehreek through her powerful poetry. They said the ANP highly values the services of Alif Jan Khattak.

Condolences are pouring in also on the social media from various quarters over the death of Alif Jan Khattak. People from different walks of life, particularly the followers of ANP and Pashto literature are expressing condolences over the death of the great Pashto poetess and political activist.

Alif Jan Khattak was a brave Pakhtun woman who made great sacrifices for rights of women at a time when no woman could dare to step out of her home. Despite being a resident of far flung area of Karak, Alif Jan made her way into active politics of Khudai Khidmatgar Tehreek and highlighted issues of women and worked for its solution.

Through her writings in 'Pakhtun' magazine of the Tehreek, she used to motivate women to raise voice for their rights and join freedom movement from the British rule. Alif Jan was bold, visionary and enlightened.

Alif Jan Khattak wanted equality and justice for people. She advocated a social cause and believed in a free society where people could enjoy equal rights. Brave women like Alif Jan Khattak paved the way for other Pakhtun women to participate in social life and raise voice for their rights and excel in their fields.
