Afghanistan- MoUs on Railroad, Investment Inked with Turkmenistan


(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) HERAT- Afghanistan and Turkmenistan on Sunday signed Memoranda of Understanding(MoUs) to expanding rail network, increasing import of energy and attractinginvestment.


FinanceMinister Mohammad Humayon Qayyoumi and Turkmenistan Foreign Minister Rasit Meredowinked the MoUs in Herat City, the capital of western Herat province.


TheMoUs are aimed at attracting investment for the Torghondai-Heart andAqena-Andkhoi rail networks and increasing 110 megawatts of electricity importfrom Turkmenistan to Farah province via Herat's Shindand district, said ActingFinance Minister Qayyoumi.


Hetermed the signing of agreement important for relations between the twocountries and hoped rail networks would be expanded between the two countriesin the future.


Healso termed the opening of Lapis Lazuli Corridor vital for the economicsurvival of the two countries and said Afghanistan was planning to purchasesecurity forces uniform on the base of barter agreement.


Hesaid the transfer of 500 megawatts of electricity from Turkmenistan to Pakistanvia Afghanistan also came up for discussion.


Headded work on TAPI gas pipeline by Turkmenistan would be launched inAfghanistan this year.


HeratGovernor Abdul Qayoum Rahimi said TAPI project included surveys, acquisition ofland, security and some legal issues. Heinformed work on the project would be launched this year. (Pajhwok)
