Doha: The 30th edition of Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) will be held from January 9 to 18, 2020, announced the Ministry of Culture and Sports yesterday.

The new edition of DIBF will be held under the supervision and organisation of the Qatar Center for Cultural and Heritage Events. The center is keen to utilise all its potentials to ensure the success and excellence of the upcoming edition of the exhibition, which coincides with the completion of its third decades.

The change of the date of DIBF has come following a comprehensive review of events in the country and their schedules. This is to avoid clashes between these events, in particular with the celebrations of National Day, December 18, and World Cup which will be hosted by Qatar in December 2022, as well as the timing of exams in public and private schools.

The new date will coincide with the launch of the cultural year Qatar-France 2020, which will give a greater chance for a significant presence of French participants in the fair and its diverse cultural presence.

In addition, the Ministry of Culture and Sports encouraged the various sectors of society, especially those interested in reading and obtaining knowledge, to visit the book fair which is also an annual forum for writers, publishers and distributors, intellectuals, students and friends of books from all walks of life.

The exhibition will last for 10 days, same as the previous versions, to give exhibitors a great opportunity to experience a distinctive cultural experience and to allow publishers to showcase their diverse publications, especially the new ones.

The DIBF is one of the most important platforms of direct communication between authors, publishers and intellectuals for learning about what is new in the field of the knowledge industry, as well as reflecting the state of the cultural landscape in the country.

The DIBF is one of the largest international book fairs in the region and enjoys great prestige witnessing public turnout from Arab and foreign countries. The number of visitors every time has been increasing since the launch of its first session in 1972.

Every year, the exhibition witnesses a great revival at various cultural and literary levels being an outstanding cultural event that attracts the attention of intellectuals, academicians and media circles.

According to the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the next edition of the DIBF will be different from the previous editions and distinguished due to the expected wide participation of Arab and foreign publishing houses.

In addition to the diverse range of books, cognitive media, and e-books, the event will host various workshops and seminars that will enrich the cultural movement accompanying the exhibition.

The DIBF is an important annual event for Qatari intellectuals, publishers and their counterparts in the Arab world and beyond as publishers, authors and readers meet to express their common aspiration to develop both Arabic and human culture.

The event also provides an opportunity for building the qualitative relationship between cultures and fosters common cultural values within the framework of dialogue, differences and mutual respect.
