Indonesia intensifies security before presidential election result

(MENAFN) Police has spread further barbed wire on Monday to intensify security outside Indonesia's election agency and readied armoured trucks and water cannons to quell any civil unrest when official results of a presidential poll are released this week.

With the General Election Commission (KPU) scheduled to announce its count from last month's election by Wednesday, authorities have nabbed dozens of militant Islamists suspected of plotting attacks to create mayhem during protests.

The result is believed to assure informal counts by private pollsters that gives incumbent President Joko Widodo about 10 percentage points ahead of opponent Prabowo Subianto.

Although independent observers and analysts declared that the poll was free and just, Prabowo has declined to concede failure, with his campaign crew making allegations of "massive cheating and irregularities" during the vote and vote-counting.
