Lebanon determined to shield land, maritime sovereignty


(MENAFN) Lebanon is completely dedicated to safeguard the sovereignty of its land and maritime, emphasized Lebanese President Michel Aoun.

There is also a necessity for Lebanon to draw its borders with Israel, the Lebanese president affirmed.

President Aoun made the vow while speaking to U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield.

During the meeting, the president stressed: "we call upon the United States to help us draw our land and maritime borders according to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to enable Lebanon to explore its oil and gas resources in the Exclusive Economic Zone."

Satterfield is in Lebanon for a two-day trip aimed at addressing the Lebanese border conflict with Israel.
