Oman- Sahwa Park to get play equipment for children with disabilities: MoSD


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD), in cooperation with Muscat Municipality and Oman LNG, is planning to install play equipment in Sahwa Park for children with disabilities.





In an emailed reply to Muscat Daily, Hamood Mird Shabibi, director general of Directorate General for Persons with Disabilities in the Ministry of Social Development said, 'The project will be funded by the Oman LNG Development Foundation. It will come up in cooperation with Muscat Municipality.'


Shabibi said that Sahwa Park has been chosen keeping in mind its strategic location and size. The plan includes installation of 11 play equipment, he said.


'The installations will include different types of disabled-friendly swings. There will be sensory pod swings, wheelchair carousels and a castle game,' he said. The play area will also be covered by a 1,730sq m shock-absorbing rubber flooring.


'The project has been planned with respect to conventions approved by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The issue of preparing a conducive environment for persons with disabilities is the need of the community. The project also seeks to enhance the idea of integrating children with special needs into the society and making it easier for their families,' he said.


Shabibi added, 'It took one year to complete the administrative and technical procedures. The project is being supervised by MoSD in coordination with Muscat Municipality.'
