KABUL: In the wake of ongoing spring offensive, top Afghan security brasses pledged of ensuring security and stability in the southern Ghazni province.

The vowed has come despite the fact that the Taligan and al-Qaeda members have strong connection and cooperation here.

Acting Defence Minister Asadullah Khalid, Acting Interior Minister Masoud Andarabi and US-NATO Forces Commander Gen. Miller have visited restive Ghazni province on Thursday to assess security situation, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

Addressing reporters late on Thursday, compared to other provinces, more Taliban and al-Aaeda members were present in Ghazni.

'We have credible intelligence that more Alqaeda and personnel of other outfits are present in Ghazni and their bodies often remained on the battle ground,' he said.

Referring to a question that the Taliban want the Afghan National Army (ANA) to be disintegrated, he said: 'We are fighting for peace which honourable and ensure the protection of past 18-year achievements and the ANA is intact, going nowhere,' he said.

Interior Minister pledged to ensure security in Ghazni, adding that security situation had deteriorated and the Taliban suffered heavy losses in recent clashes.
