Book highlights work of Council of Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The State Council issued a commemorative book titled, The Council Memories on Saturday. It features photographs of two decades, symbolising memories and activities conducted as per its role in contributing to national action from the first period to the end of the second annual session of the current sixth period of the council.

The book commences with an extract from the Royal Speech of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said delivered at the inauguration of the Council of Oman on December 27, 1997.

In the speech, His Majesty the Sultan, said, 'The establishment of the State Council to work side by side with the Majlis A'Shura towards achieving the nation's goals is another step forward along the path of co-operation between the government and citizens, which aims to ensure greater prosperity, progress and development, the multiplicity of views and ideas which serve the public interest and enrich the development process.'

The book also includes the speech of Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, chairman, State Council, wherein he stressed that the Council of Oman (comprising the State Council and Majlis A'Shura) is one of the most distinguished manifestation of Oman's modern political history.

It represents a pillar of the state institutions and law in the sultanate, embodies the aspirations of society, and is an exercise of the Royal Directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
