PIL On Saving Sonamarg:HC orders Personal Appearance Of Com Secy H&UDD

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today directed the Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department to remain present with updated status about the action plan of Sewage Waste Management at Sonmarg.

Hearing PIL on conservation and protection of Sonmarg tourist resort, the division bench of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Sanjeev Kumar passed the directions after being informed that the draft action plan of SWM was pending before Commissioner U & UDD for finalization.

The court was informed that the department has to put in public domain for suggestion and objections before it was finalized.

The Court observed said directions were passed in October 2018 by it for revised Master Plan, comprehensive Environment Impact Assessment and SWM for Sonamarg tourist resort but there was no progress shown about the action plan of SWM and time and again time was sought for ensuring the same. 'Ensure court orders are implemented in letter and spirit and remain present before the court next date', Court directed to Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department.

With regard to comprehensive Environment Impact Assessment, the court was informed that the same was completed and CTP Kashmir has been asked to take steps for revision of existing Master Plan for Sonamarg in view of observation of the court.

The High Court has directed all the subordinate courts including all tribunals not to pass or entertain any kind of order with regard to construction in Sonamarg.

To save Sonamarg from becoming a concrete jungle, the High Court has already banned till further orders all constructions at the tourist resort in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district.

'We have noticed that constructions are taking place in Sonmarg. We direct that no construction shall be carried till further orders,' the court had said.
