Net job creation showed surplus last year in Brazil

Brasília – The number of workers hired in 2018 exceeded that of workers fired by 529,500 in 2018, as per the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons ( Caged ) made public this Wednesday (23) by the Ministry of Economy's Special Secretariat for Social Security and Labor. This came as the first positive result since 2014, which had seen 420,600 net jobs created.

Services led the way with 398,600 jobs, followed by trade at 102,000. Government jobs were the only sector to post a net job deficit, at 4,190.

São Paulo topped the list at 146,600, followed by Minas Gerais at 81,900 and Santa Catarina at 41,700. The biggest job deficits were recorded in Mato Grosso do Sul (3,100), Acre (961) and Roraima (397).
