India: 8 die in ferry overturn


(MENAFN) An Indian Navy official declared that eight people have been killed, one remains uncounted for, and 17 were saved after a ferry boat sank in the southern state of Karnataka.

Earlier, navy spokesman D.K. Sharma confirmed that 16 people have died and their bodies were retrieved by the Indian Navy and India Coast Guard (ICG) assets.

He added on Twitter that the ferry boat overturned while carrying 24 people on board.

Eight dead bodies have been retrieved and 17 persons were saved while one was still uncounted for.
