Kazakh ensemble Korkyt enthralls Katara audience

The traditional Kazakh folk music took centrestage at the third Cultural Diversity Festival held at Katara Amphitheatre with the performance of Kazakhstan's internationally acclaimed Korkyt ensemble on Friday and Saturday.

The award-winning traditional Kazakh music ensemble enthralled the audience with their unique performance as they played music using traditional Kazakh musical instruments.

Established in 2015, the group includes laureates of national and international competitions. It aims to popularise and promote traditional Kazakh music as well as teach the youth to respect, love and understand the great role of the original, traditional culture in the well-being of the Kazakh country and future generations of the state.

The ensemble is famous for their work on traditional musical genres, including folk and Kazakh varieties of traditional kuis, zhyr and terme performing Kazakh folk musical instruments such as kobyz, kul-kobyz, shan kobyz, saz-syrnay, sybyzgy, dauylpaz, dabyl, and ytigen. In a short time since its founding the ensemble has already won prestigious international competitions including 'Shabyt and 'Jazz Festival and performed in different countries such as the US, Russia, China and some European and Middle Eastern countries.

The programme, which was part of the annual festival organised by Katara, also included a performance by a group from Tunisia.

Meanwhile, the 'Sri Warisan cultural band from Singapore will feature at the festival this coming Friday and Saturday.

This prominent Singaporean cultural band was founded in 1997 and performed in many countries around the world such as Belgium, China, India, Holland, Greece and has contributed in national projects in Singapore.

The show is free to the public and runs from 7pm to 8.45pm at the Katara amphitheatre.
