Amman, Jan. 16 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday stressed the importance of serving Jordanian and improving their living conditions, and noted that political development and achieving economic and social progress must be at the forefront of the priorities and programmes of parliamentary blocs.

Speaking during a meeting with the members of the House of Representatives' Watan bloc at Al Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah highlighted the need for parliamentary blocs' programmes to focus on challenges related to vital sectors such as education, agriculture, labour and economic recovery.

During the meeting, which comes within the framework of His Majesty's ongoing meetings with parliamentary blocs to encourage them to build political, economic and social platforms, the King pointed out the importance of cooperation between parliamentary blocs and the government on programmes and plans, in addition to blocs' legislative and oversight role.

His Majesty called for well-thought plans that would enhance public trust in the work of MPs and blocs, enabling the process of political reform to proceed quickly and effectively.

The King explained that parliamentary blocs have an important role in the development of political life and in dealing with the daily challenges facing Jordan.

Speaking about developing the level of services provided to citizens, His Majesty discussed the importance of the e-government programme in improving and facilitating services to citizens and investors.

The meeting covered a number of domestic and economic concerns, as well as regional developments and their negative repercussions on Jordan's economy.

Speaking at the meeting, MP Ramadan Huneiti, the head of the 14-member Watan bloc, said the grouping is committed to improving parliamentary work to meet the aspirations of Jordanians.

Huneiti commended His Majesty's visit to Baghdad this week, pointing to its notable reception in Iraq.

Other Watan bloc members expressed appreciation for the King's regional policy and for defending the Palestinian cause and highlighting the true image of Islam, while also working towards political solutions to regional crises.

Thanking His Majesty for directives to draft a general pardon bill, the MPs called for developing technical and vocational education and urged more attention to the tourism, transport, mining, industry, export, trade, and alternative energy sectors.

They also stressed the importance of activating public-private partnerships, noting that Jordan has many achievements that should be celebrated through a national plan to counter rumours and attempts to undermine the Kingdom's role.

Moreover, the lawmakers commended outreach by the King and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to citizens around Jordan.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi and Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas attended the meeting.
