ABU DHABI, 11th January, 2019 (WAM) -- Aziz Rebbah, Morocco's Minister of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development, has hailed his country's strategic partnership with the UAE, saying that energy projects worth US$14 billion are currently underway in Morocco.
Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Rebbah said, "Our energy strategy targets increasing use of renewable energy to 52 percent by 2030, while reducing consumption of conventional energy sources by 15 percent."
He praised UAE's support to the Moroccan renewable energy sector and said that Masdar, Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company, had successfully installed an off-grid solar power project that extends energy access to 19,438 homes in more than 1,000 villages in Morocco.
The Moroccan minister referred to the plans for developing the energy sector in Morocco. He said the kingdom has earmarked US$14 billion for investments in the sector between 2017 and 2023, including projects for solar and wind energy, as well as for developing the power grid to become compatible with renewable energy sources.
Rebbah is in the UAE to attend the ninth session of the Assembly meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency, IRENA, in Abu Dhabi.
