MENAFN- Asia Times) A young Filipino swimmer won several gold medals and beat her own record at a competition in Dubai. Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh, 12, competed in the 200m butterfly event at the 2018 Hamilton Aquatics Winter Long Course Swimming Championships.
She won a gold medal with a record time of two minutes, 22.31 seconds, The Manila Times reported.
Mojdeh beat her Philippine national junior record of two minutes, 25.82 seconds she set during the 2018 Middle East Open Swimming Championships, which were also held in Dubai in February.
Aside from beating her own record, Mojdeh also won three more gold medals in the 100m butterfly, 400m individual medley and 50m breaststroke in the same competition.
Philippine Swimming League (PSL) president Susan Papa said it would not be a surprise if Mojdeh makes it to the Olympics at a young age as she keeps improving. 'She's really improving. We are so proud of our swimmers,' Papa said.
Papa said the Philippines won 27 gold, 22 silver and five bronze medals at the two-day competition that had more than 500 competitors from 22 countries.
'We are so overwhelmed with the results and we want to dedicate this victory to our country. These kids have sacrificed a lot to bring honor to our country,' she said.
